Margy Vogt, public relations coordinator for the Massillon Museum said the coffee shop has been a draw for the museum, and has always been a lively part of a visit to the museum. "It's like I'm a bartender, but with coffee," she said. Suarez graduated from Malone University with a social work degree, which proves handy as she listens to customers and pours them a cup of joe as they pour their hearts out to her. She has watched her customers' children grow up in her coffee shop and they have watched her son and daughter grow up. A group of customers even started a Relay for Life group and had several fundraisers and events to benefit the American Cancer Society.Īlways smiling and quick to give a compliment or even tease a regular customer, Suarez's eyes fill with tears when she reminisces about the past decade. Over the years at both locations, the coffee shop has had open mic nights, acoustic music concerts, and numerous special events. The pair opened the Chit Chat and eventually Suarez took over as the sole owner. Suarez said just more than a decade ago she was a stay-at-home mom of two in Perry Township with a social work degree, and a friend of hers, Shellee Finch, called her up and invited her to join her dream of opening a coffee shop in downtown Massillon. "I love making addicts out of people," she said with a laugh. She loves when a customer swings open the door and says with a mock threatening tone, "I've got a bone to pick with you." Suarez, of course, responds with: "Bring it on!" She hears time and time again: "I can't drink anyone else's coffee." Suarez said her main goal of the Chit Chat Coffee Shoppe has always been to make sure her customers leave feeling better and a bit more special than when they came in. "It's been my pleasure for nine-and-a-half years and I thank every last one of them (customers) from the bottom of my heart. She said she is thankful at how the community embraced her business and she hopes she fulfilled a need. ![]() ![]() The family moved to Massillon last year after 18 years in Perry Township. While she is sad to leave the Chit Chat, she is looking forward to spending time with her husband and teen daughter and son. "It wasn't an easy decision to make to do this." She had brain surgery about eight years ago, and other surgeries over the years, but she still struggles with pain and other complications from the disorder. While Suarez smiles easily and keeps it well-hidden from people who don't know her very well, she suffers from Chiari malformations, which are structural deformations in part of the brain.
